How to Wash Microfibre Towels Properly
Microfibre towels are highly efficient cleaning tools, but they require specific care to maintain their effectiveness and longevity. Here’s a step-by-step guide to washing microfibre towels, ensuring they remain in peak condition.
Do's for Washing Microfibre Towels
✅ Wash in Cold to Warm Water ( 40°c Max)
- Use water between 30°C and 40°c to preserve the integrity of the fibres. Avoid using hot water, as it can damage the microfibres and reduce their cleaning ability.
✅ Use Simple Detergents (No Softeners or Brighteners)
- Opt for basic detergents without fabric softeners or optical brighteners. Fabric softeners block the microfibre’s pores, reducing absorption, while optical brighteners can fade the material over time.
✅ Dry on No Heat, Low Heat, or Permanent Press (140ºF Max)
- Avoid high heat settings in the dryer, as they can shrink the fibre's and reduce their cleaning performance.
✅ Add Plastic Dryer Balls
- Dryer balls help to dislodge trapped dirt, hair, and lint from the microfibre, enhancing cleanliness.
Don’ts for Washing Microfibre Towels
❌ Avoid Bleach
- Bleach weakens and damages the microfibre material, causing shedding and lint deposits on cleaned surfaces.
❌ Don’t Store Dirty Microfibre in Airtight Containers
- Storing used microfiber towels in closed, airtight spaces promotes bacterial growth and retains odors, which can transfer to cleaned surfaces later.
❌ Don’t Overload the Washer/Dryer (¾ Full Max)
- Overloading compresses the fibres, trapping dirt and reducing performance. It can also lead to streak marks on cleaned surfaces.
❌ Never Wash with Natural Fabrics
- Avoid washing microfibre towels with cotton, wool, or other natural fabrics. Microfibre’s positive charge attracts lint from these materials, which can transfer to surfaces during cleaning.
